Toyota Previa Named Most Reliable Car in the UK – According to MotorEasy... But some luxury brands are struggling at the bottom of the rankings

If you’re after peace of mind behind the wheel, look no further than the Toyota Previa. According to the latest MotorEasy Reliability Index (updated 31 August 2025), Toyota’s family-friendly MPV has beenwas crowned the last month’sUK’s most reliable car, scoring an impressive 9.8 out of 10 for dependability and repair affordability.

What is the MotorEasy Reliability Index?

The Index is powered by real-world data from thousands of MotorEasy warranty claims. It looks at how often cars break down and how much they cost to fix, covering 341 models across 45 different manufacturers. In other words, it’s based on real experiences from real drivers – not just lab tests – and uses a combination of data covering both the frequency and cost of repairs.

Hybrids on the Rise

As Hybrids and Electric Vehicles (EVs) age and exit their manufacture warranties, more are entering the MotorEasy Reliability Index database. As of the 31st August, two hybrid models now sit in the top ten:

  • Lexus CT – 6th place
  • Toyota C-HR – 8th place

Both scored 9.7 out of 10, but the Lexus edges ahead thanks to lower average repair costs.

Meanwhile, the Nissan Leaf is climbing the ranks too. It’s now 14th overall with a score of 9.6 - Nissan’s top performer in the Index. We’ve not yet seen a fully electric car break into the top ten, but it’s only a matter of time.

The Other End of the Scale...

Not all brands fared so well. The Tesla Model X takes the unwanted title of least reliable car in the Index, mainly because of its high number of repair claims.

Luxury brands also struggled, with Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Velar and Land Rover Discovery all featuring in the bottom ten. Models from Audi, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche join them, alongside Tesla – proving that premium badges don’t always guarantee hassle-free motoring.

All of the bottom ten models share the same low score: just 1 out of 10.

Duncan McClure Fisher, CEO of Intelligent Motoring and founder of MotorEasy, explains:

“Our Reliability Index constantly evolves as cars age beyond their manufacturer warranties. With alternative fuel vehicles making up nearly 42% of new car registrations last year, it’s no surprise we’re seeing hybrids and EVs climbing the rankings. That’s a trend we expect to accelerate.

“Take Tesla, for example. A few years ago, faults were rare. Today, Tesla ranks last for frequency of repairs – only staying off the very bottom overall because other luxury brands like Bentley and Land Rover have such high repair costs.”
